Human-wildlife coexistence in the Tarangire Ecosystem

Together with colleagues from the  Wild Nature Institute, I compiled an edited volume covering the complex field of human-wildlife coexistence in the fragmented Tarangire Ecosystem of northern Tanzania. In this volume, we summarize and synthesize decades of human-centered, wildlife-centered and interdisciplinary research carried out in this fascinating part of East Africa.

Human-wildlife coexistence in agricultural landscapes

How can we better manage human-wildlife interactions in agricultural landscapes of Europe? In this project, we focussed on case studies covering species such as wolves, common cranes, and wild boar, and looked at human-wildlife interactions from an interdisciplinary angle.

Mixed species herds in large East African Mammals 

We were interested in the patterns and mechanisms of mixed species groups in large mammal communities of East Africa and analysed:

• Spatio-temporal patterns of mixed species herds
• Behavioral variation of individuals in mixed- and single species herds
• Behavioral responses of prey species in single- and mixed species groups subject to variable predation pressure

LosBonasus Crossing!
​​In this project, we supported a fascinating recent development: the recovery and recolonization of moose (Alces alces) and European bison (Bison bonasus) in the border region between Germany and Poland. Toegther with our project partners, we equipped relevant stakeholders with the neccessary information and tools to manage this process sustainably.
